Roman's story is a journey of strength and giving back, he is a very special little boy whose mum Amy is a talented stylist at Robert e Lee Hair.

January 2023 changed Roman's life forever. What started as a visit to a local mum and baby group turned into a devastating accident. Within minutes of arriving, Roman accidentally pulled a thermal cup of freshly made tea off the table and onto himself. The insulated cup design retained the heat, and the tea contained sugar, causing it to cling to Roman's skin, resulting in severe burns.

Roman was rushed to A&E, assessed, and then transferred to the specialist burns unit at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford for urgent treatment.

His facial burns required three daily debridement's. A painful procedure to remove any developing scabs to prevent infection. All carried out with Roman fully conscious. His neck and chest required skin grafts, skin was taken from his thigh leaving substantial scaring.

Giving Back to the Burns Unit

During their stay in the burns unit, Amy noticed something heart breaking. Basic necessities were severely lacking.

Not just things like broken toys, but more importantly seemingly small things like weaning spoons. Roman was unable to open his mouth wide and there was only one weaning spoon suitable in the whole unit.

Determined to make a difference, Amy created an Amazon wish list to provide essentials for the unit. Thanks to her efforts the unit received:

  • Pyjamas

  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste

  • Spoons, cups, beakers

  • New toys

Amy determined to fundraise even more has already raised over £500 for Children's Burns Trust. In September 2025, she will be running a half marathon - will you help her by sharing Roman's story and raising awareness about burns?

Two years later, Roman is a trooper and is still undergoing rehabilitation therapies. Throughout it all the Children's Burns Trust has played a crucial role. This non- government funded charity provides essential equipment, rehabilitation services, and financial support for parents staying with their children during treatment.

Every donation big or small makes a difference. Please consider helping children like Roman on their road to recovery.
